Jim Ranalli

Thank you for visiting my homepage. I’m an assistant professor in the TESL/Applied Linguistics program at Iowa State University. My current research focuses on the intersection of second language writing, technology, and self-regulated learning. I’m especially interested in innovative uses of computers for 1) assessing and scaffolding students’ development of academic writing abilities and 2) facilitating research into learner self-regulation and engagement in writing processes.

I also teach graduate and undergraduate courses in teaching methodology, computer-assisted language learning, and linguistics. In addition, I am a co-coordinator of ISU’s English Placement Test and the coordinator for English 101B, a course on academic writing for international students.
